Tooth pain or toothache is one of the most notorious and nagging discomfort one can suffer. You can’t eat your favorite foods, can’t drink the fizzy cola you like or can’t even talk properly. The pain recurs back even after you have taken some pills for it. Really an irritating problem it is. Tooth pain can be surfaced due to many reasons. A dental caries, infected cavity in your tooth, bleeding gums, weak gum, any abscess just under the tooth, a dislodged dental filling, failed procedure of dental root canal treatment or commonly after a spank from your brother – all these can lead to tooth pain. A tooth pain is caused due to irritation in the nerves that innervate the gum. It is supplied by the fifth cranial nerve – the trigeminal nerve. Often pains of non-dental origin can also refer to as tooth pain.

You must visit to your dentist if you have a nagging toothache. But before going to your doctor, try some age-old home remedies to alleviate the pain.
Always keep some painkiller like Ibuprofen, diclofenac and paracetamol tablets at your place. Any combination of these medicines is better than single preparation. You must take these medicines with an antacid tablet.

Chew some ice. Keeping an ice cube over the painful tooth also offer the same effect. The sense of cold makes the nerves numb and the intensity of pain is reduced.

Applying some clove oil over the affected tooth has tremendous healing capacity. Chewing some cloves also give same effect.

Get some fresh guava leaves. Pick the smallest ones. Make a paste and apply over the tooth. Pain will vanish within minutes.

Wheat grass juice may be applied. It has a natural soothing capacity. It has the power to drag out the toxins besides preventing inflammation.

Take equal parts of asafetida powder and lemon juice. Make a paste. Apply the mixture over the painful tooth. Slight warming the mixture yields better result.

Make a paste of Bay Berry bark with vinegar. Warm up it a bit and apply. This is a good preparation for toothache.

Infusion drink using two teaspoonfuls of dried chamomile flowers in a cup of boiling water and steeping for 10 minutes is very much helpful in ease out tooth pain.

Infusion drink made from another herb – Echinacea, is equally helpful.

If you have a cavity in the tooth, clean it with wet cotton or carefully with a toothpick. Then put some cotton soaked with clove oil.

Gurgling with vanilla extract or almond paste mixed with lemon juice is good for toothache.

Cut a small piece of onion. Place it over the gum just beside to the aching tooth. Your pain will be gone within minutes.
A mixture of 3 parts of garlic paste with one part of rock salt is good for tooth pain.

If you have whisky or rum at your place, soak a piece of cotton in it and place over the painful area. Alcohol present in these beverages (almost 48%) is very much helpful to give some relief.
