Helpful Tips for Loose Eyelid Skin

As we age, several things begin to change with the body, one being the development of loose eyelid skin.  As a result, this makes people appear tired and older than their actual age.  In addition, when skin on the eyelids is extremely loose, it can actually push down on the eye causing problems with vision.  Sometimes, the only option is to have surgery to correct the problem but a person could try a number of things before going this route.

One of the first steps is to prevent loose eyelid skin.  For this, both men and women should adopt a healthy facial regimen for daily cleansing and moisturizing.  When skin is healthy, it holds its natural firmness better.  One of the most important aspects of this regimen is to use the right products.  We strongly recommend skincare lines that are made from all-natural or organic ingredients, which are safer for the skin while still being effective.

However, if loose eyelid skin still develops, stay on a good skincare regimen.  In fact, this is something that should be done throughout life.  Along with proper cleansers and moisturizers, it is also important to add daily exercises that are designed specifically to help tighten sagging skin.  Doing these facial exercises for five to ten minutes a day will make a significant difference.  While the results would typically take several weeks to see, they work.  An online search would provide a broad selection of exercises just for the face.

While a little more aggressive, another option to help tighten loose eyelid skin, as well as skin on other parts of the face is Botox.  Although some people feel this is dangerous, studies conducted show that no ill effects occur.  For Botox injections, it is imperative to visit a board certified plastic surgeon, dermatologist, or aesthetician.  Although a little painful while the injections are being done, the pain does not last and the results are seen immediately.

While laser treatment is another option to help with loose eyelid skin, a safer method that is just as effective is called Thermage.  Instead of laser, this method uses radio frequency.  As collagen in the skin heats up, loose skin immediately becomes tighter.  Another benefit of Thermage is that along with tightening loose eyelid and other facial skin, it actually promotes stronger collagen.  Although considered safe, some people will experience some redness and swelling, and on rare occasions, blistering.  After the initial treatment, periodic maintenance is required.

Finally, loose eyelid skin can be corrected through surgery, which is known as Blepharoplasty.  The benefit is that the results are permanent while the downside is that bruising and swelling is expected for up to one week.  In this case, a board certified plastic surgeon would actually remove excess skin and then stitch the incision up on the eyelid so instantly the eyes are tighter and more youthful appearing.  The most important thing to consider whenever any cosmetic surgery is being performed is that the doctor is qualified, meaning he or she has all the required education, training, and experience.
