Affirmations And Visualization For Pregnancy

shares |

    1. Choose an appropriate positive affirmation such as: ‘I am looking forward to a fulfilling and pain-free birth‘.
    2. Every night, when you go to bed, imagine your baby being born in a calm, relaxed, joyful and enjoyable, pain-free way.
    3. Feel your love for the baby growing inside you as you welcome it into your heart and family.
    4. Repeat your positive thought slowly and carefully to yourself.
    5. Now touch the bed with the little finger of your left hand. Repeat the thought and touch the bed with the ring finger of your left hand while concentrating on the warm, loving glow you will feel when your baby is eventually born in an easy and pain-free labor.
    6. Continue repeating your affirmation, while touching the bed with each finger (and thumb) of the left hand, and then the right. Then reverse the process, touching the bed starting with the little finger of the right hand.

By the time you have finished, you will have repeated the thought 20 times. Repeat this procedure every night for a week, staying awake throughout the entire process. The following week, repeat the process but let yourself fall asleep when you are ready. The statement should now have become part of your normal thinking patterns and you will have mentally prepared yourself for a fulfilling and pain-free labor.

    Activating your tan tien

In the Chinese practice of qigong, a popular Visualization and relaxation exercise is the activation of the tan tien (dan Han); this is an area located about 5 cm (2 in) or three to four finger-breadths below the navel, and is considered to be the seat of the ‘constitutional essence’, termed jing.

One aspect of jing nourishes a developing baby in the womb and is vital for growth and development. Your own jing can be strengthened by activating the tan tien through qigong— exercises utilizing controlled breathing, combined with adjustment of body posture and focused awareness/Visualization.

When the tan tien is activated, you may feel vibration and warmth in the area below the umbilicus. A useful Chinese technique to activate the tan tien is known as the ‘inner smile’:

    - Sit comfortably with your back straight and your arms relaxed at your sides.

    - Imagine something that makes you smile—perhaps the baby growing inside you.

    - Allow yourself to smile internally so it is felt only by you and your baby—the smile does not have to be visible to anyone else.

    - Let the smile shine out of your eyes and travel inwards to spread all over your body and into your baby, before concentrating just below your navel in the tan tien—the seat of your constitutional essence, or jing.

    - As the smile radiates within, notice how relaxed and calm you feel.

    - Once you feel relaxed yet energized, you can continue what you were previously doing, enriched by feelings of warmth, harmony and inner strength.
